THE NEED
In light of a non-existent public school system and rampant unemployment, many Haitians are unable to afford to educate their families. As a result, half of all children do not attend school. Instead, families find themselves destined to continue in this cycle of poverty. Worse yet, with so many desperate parents who cannot care for their unschooled children, more than 250,000 Haitian children have been forced into domestic servitude.
OUR RESPONSE
Mercy International’s desire is to bring Gospel truth and sustainable help to the Haitian families that God puts in our path. With your student sponsorship, Mercy hopes to help families stay together and break the cycle of poverty. Our prayer is that students can be educated, find jobs, and eventually help sustain their family. And with that education also comes literacy. Given that 49% of Haiti’s population is unable to read, what a joy it is to equip a student to read the Bible to their families!
THE SPONSORSHIP
With your annual donation of $300, a child will receive one year’s tuition at a nearby school, a backpack, books, a uniform and shoes, and quality dental care.
THE RELATIONSHIP
As a student sponsor, you will receive a photo and information about your child. Mercy International also encourages each sponsor to write a letter to encourage their student throughout the year.
Students will also be encouraged to write back. This is a great way to personally be involved in your student’s journey out of poverty and into relationship with Jesus Christ.
